This is one of Charmed’s low-points. A vain, offensive, crappy episode that goes so far as to utilise of the negative attributes that have been plaguing the show since this season started. Wiccan rules are abused, the girls act like brain-dead bimbos, Piper whines her ass off, and Chris continues his quest to single-handedly destroy the show, though the rest of this episode helps in its own way.
Piper says it herself, conjuring up a sex-toy is something they would have done years ago, and it’s pretty much what she and Phoebe did during Dream sorcerer, to mixed results. It’s devastating to see the show throw personal maturity out the window when it comes to the girls’ relationship with magic. The episode may have highlighted the immaturity of it, but it still blows that they even tried it in the first place.
There is a solid reasoning behind Piper’s whining this week. She’s been beaten down by love, lost the love of her life, all in the name of magic. It makes sense that she would dedicate herself full-time to something she knows she’s meant to do; raise her kid. Of course, throwing love away completely and voluntarily becoming a non-religious nun does raise the bar on her illogical thinking quite high, but there you go.
It’s childish, but any cattiness over David was fun, just for the sole reason of it being some bastardised version of sibling conflict that this show was once based on. But when the cakes stated flying, so did their dignity.

Lord, that's a great review! In complete agreement with all of it, but especially when you write that it doesn't excuse terrible writing by actually having characters acknowledge how stupid it is.
ReplyDeleteAnd agreed with the Dream Sorceror thing. That was a pretty bad first season episode, but so much more enjoyable to watch than this shit-show. One of Charmed's worst.
