Charmed 6.20 A Wrong Day's Journey Into Right

Stories may have been largely inconsistent this season, but one thing that’s remained constant is my opinion of the sisters themselves, whose likability has been fledging since late last year. A Wrong Days Journey Into Right is still a mostly terrible episode, but it managed one important thing; one sister finally showed some fire.

From her Jason whinging, to the post-break-up nagging to that questionable sperm hunt, Phoebe has been falling so far down the tramp tube I never really thought there was ever hope for her again. And then her powers were stripped. Only in Charmed can a sneaky money saving contrivance unintentionally turn something like this around. Now that she’s been forced to rely on her old street smarts, Phoebe actually brought out some of the traits that got us to fall in love with her in the first place; she was funny, kooky, wicked smart and most of all, likable. Sure, there’s that skin tight cat suit to flaunt her body, as per usual, but for once it wasn’t the main event.

The episode exhibited a number of flaws elsewhere, though. Paige’s selfishness drives her to some new lows, and subsequently the writers, as they drop cribbing of their decent material, and their recent stuff a go. Sure, Mr Right is a hell of a lot more likable this time around, and the fact that it wasn’t overlooked as some witchy quirk was even more satisfying, but watching Paige ditch the search for their latest baddie for some R & R is a little damaging on her part, even if the reasoning is sound.

The story took a few interesting psychological turns, and it was pretty cool that Paige’s inner turmoil was what controlled everything, but the show doesn’t capitalise on what works anymore. I’m starting to get a little apathetic towards Charmed, now. At least Phoebe was fun, I guess?

5/10
