When a show becomes more comfortable with itself, it turns out episodes like this one. ‘Chick Flick’ makes a mockery of even itself, but it does it in an amazing way that is completely fathomable. It’s no surprise that so many people love it.
In 'Chick Flick' the Demon of Illusion brings characters from horror movies to life, but he also brings one of Phoebe’s favourite movie heroes back to life too.
This episode took things to a whole other level. Charmed is quite ridiculous, and it knows it but this episode proves just that taking the horror genre from which so many of its demons could be categorised, and has fun with it. When a show can do something as great as this, it’s doing something very right. The fun jumpy moments had just the right amount of campiness to work perfectly and the same goes for the horrifically clique villains.
I liked that Phoebe is a film nut. She’s never had any luck with men, so naturally the only one who would fit with her would be someone like Billy. The ending was so cheesy, yet so perfect it was hard not to think of it as one of the greatest moments of the series in a way.
Leo and Piper’s hilarious first date is such a funny moment but one thing always confused me. If Dan was so broken up about Piper leaving him, then how was he so quick to jump back into dating so quickly? Strange...I still feel for him a lot though, he always seems to face hit after hit with Piper, even after they've split.
This episode is quite fabulous and it only seems to get better with age.
9.5/10
My favourite Charmed comedy and one of my favourite episodes. Classy and funny and the running in the Manor is hilarious! Spot on review.
