‘Ex-Libris’ attempts to bring two separate sister’s on-goings and merge them together. It does this well, but the result is a little dull.
Synopsis: Prue meets a man desperate to get justice for his daughter’s murder. Phoebe meets the ghost of a girl who was killed when she discovered the existence of demons. Piper finds out more about Leo’s past.
It’s hard to be mad at this episode. It brought two seemingly different stories together with a straight forward, yet satisfying ending. It was just a done in such a boring way that I found it difficult to like it as much as I should have.
Like ‘The Wendigo’, this episode has something very ‘Spelling’ about it. Cleavant trying to prove that his daughter was murdered was a nice simple plot that, unfortunately, wasn’t half as entertaining as other similar moments in the show, even though it was given a lot more attention.
Libris, as a demon, was quite freaky, but his vanquish was glossed over completely. Charmed does have a knack for focusing on more boring aspects of its episodes, and that shows here. His vanquish was pretty easy, still I did like seeing Prue use her new power more.
I wish I could have liked this one a bit more, but it just wasn’t as great as it should have been. What saves a dull hour, is the coming together of the two stories, something Charmed does pretty well in other instances.
6/10
