Seeing as how the pilot was originally shot with CBS in mind, I always suspected that the show may be a little ‘CW’d after the first episode. It becomes obvious from time to time that despite being an adult drama, it’s still a CW show, with the typical soundtrack and general trash factor. Even so, I found myself more engrossed in the show, and it managed to hold my interest after the pilot, which I guess means it did its job.
Synopsis: Bridget tries to hide the body of the man she killed in self defence, while hosting a business party for Andrew and fighting off questions from Agent Machado.
Ringer is quite ridiculous if you think about it. The premise alone is enough to make anyone laugh, but the show itself has a fair few laughable moments. It’s this kind of thing that I really want the show to embrace and just run with it. There’s a clear opportunity for them to go crazy and just embrace its campy side.
The series seems to borrow from other shows a lot, I mean how Alias was that opening montage?! It’s great seeing what kind of a show it will be, even if it’s a mesh of other ones. The drama mixed with the nail biting of the action elements seem to work together pretty well, and I loved the hilarious antics she got up to with the body, while hosting a last minute cocktail party.
I’m really starting to get a feel for the characters a lot more. Like last week, I really like that Bridget isn’t a perfect girl. She’s a wreck, all things considered. It’s her flaws that make her so likable, and it was great that she decided to stick where she was to help everyone else. How could she not though, the show would be over! The flashbacks are a great way to allow us a little more insight into the sisters’ lives before, so I’d like them to be a regular, but not too regular, thing.
They’re doing a fine job of revealing all the aspects of Siobhan’s life bit by bit, and I’m really curious to see what will unfold between Siobhan/Bridget and Olivia especially without any of Siobhan’s knowledge of what kind of a relationship they have, Bridget has to figure it all out for herself.
The mysteries are really fun too, especially the ending. I hope the whole ‘Siobhan running around Paris for the final 30 seconds’ isn’t a staple of every episode and she starts to feature a lot more, because even though the show’s pacing is a little all over the place, it needs to start answering a few questions soon, or risk becoming a little frustrating. That’s a little while off though, so they can have fun with it for the time being.
The show is still a little messy, but they seem to have an idea of what they want the show to be like, and hopefully it can improve as time goes on.
7/10
Great review. I hope we see more of Siobhan too. And the whole "cliffhanger in Paris" thing will probably get old after a while.
