Ringer 1.05 'A Whole New Kind Of Bitch'

Ringer is finally starting to become the show I’ve wanted it to be since the pilot. People’s motives and the incredibly dizzying amount of ongoing storylines are starting to make sense and everything is starting to feel more natural; or as natural as a crazy story like this can get.

Synopsis: Bridget struggles to convince Gemma to keep quiet about her true identity but when she asks Bridget to call Henry out on Siobhan and his affair, she decides to intervene in fixing their broken marriage. Juliet continues to act out against her father.

When I watched the first episode one of the biggest problems I had was that the series didn’t really seem to make sense. What I mean by that is how Bridget’s decisions were all completely spontaneous and a little reckless. Other than hiding from someone who wants her dead, taking over her sister’s life only seemed like something that made very little sense for a short while, if at all. Here a lot about the realities of the situation she’s in were addressed. It’s nice that she seems to want to help the people in her Siobhan’s life by staying but there’s no denying that the whole scheme was out of her decision to save her own ass in the first place; she didn’t do this solely to help her sister’s family.

Gemma is someone I enjoyed this week in that respect since she basically called Bridget out for it, but other than that she was really only a means to an end helping all our lead characters' stories along, Henry in particular who other than showing some serious affection for Siobhan hasn’t done anything noteworthy until that pretty amazing cliff-hanger. Somehow I doubt Gemma is dead, but at least it implies some dark storylines in the future and I love seeing things getting crazier each week.

As for Bridget herself, I’m starting to enjoy her even more now. She seems to know that what she did was completely reckless, but she has dug herself into a hole now, and she has to lie in it. Helping Juliet was sweet to watch, but I hope that not all the rifts between them have been mended since things are already moving too fast, and I love watching her change everyone’s lives bit by bit, not all at once.

All in all this was a fantastic episode, probably the best one yet. If Ringer continues in this direction it will be doing quite a bit right.

8/10
