Charmed 1.11 'Feats of Clay'

A lot of shows have a few episodes that don’t just fall under the category of ‘bad’. They’re also plain boring. ‘Feats of Clay’ is most definitely one of those episodes. With a dull demon and an even duller guest star, I find it hard to even remember much about this one.

Synopsis: Phoebe’s ex, Clay, returns from New York to ask Prue to sell an urn for him. After the girls discover that it was stolen, they must protect him from the urn’s guardian intent on killing him in order to punish him for his greed.

Clay was a total drag. I find it hard to fathom that a girl like Phoebe, full of life and personality, would ever go for someone as vacuous as him. Still, it was nice to see some sort of insight into what Phoebe got up to in New York during her 6 months there, and there was clearly an opportunity for a flashback episode during the first season that was never taken. Prue, just like in the earlier episodes, was a complete pain in the ass. If my sister burst in on my like she did when Phoebe was with Clay, she would not have gotten away with it lightly.

‘Feats of Clay’ did see the introduction of one of the great small roles in the earlier seasons, Claire. It’s a shame she disappeared after this season because her scenes with Prue were a lot of fun, and Cristine Rose fit right into the role.

As an episode that deals with something that falls under a morally grey area, the fight to protect Clay was pretty uninteresting. The guardian was such a non-threat that I almost forgot about her before her scenes ended. A boring hour. Let’s move on.

3/10
