The show finally puts an end to the dreadful villains that were Rex and Hanna, and the girls accept that magic and being witches are part of who they are. It was a decent episode that, in a way, acted as an ending to the first half of the season.
Synopsis: After Rex frames Prue for the theft of a priceless tiara from the auction house, Piper and Phoebe must break her out. After being caught, they must sacrifice their powers in order to save Prue.
Rex and Hanna, as I have pointed out a few times already, were two of my least favourite enemies the show ever produced. There was something so ridiculously stupid about them, which makes this episode a very satisfying one. It always baffled me was how Rex and Hanna, not only stole two peoples identities that were so obviously not them, and managed to gain control of the auction house itself. Would there not have been a dozen legal blocks to prevent this from happening? I guess that’s the thing about Charmed; you really shouldn’t look too hard at the details!
Still, that’s what makes this episode so enjoyable; seeing the girls stop them, even if it wasn’t them who vanquished Rex & Hanna in the end. It was also the first little hint the show gave to a more powerful enemy trying to put an end to the Charmed Ones.
Another reason I like this episode is that the girls realise that they should stop fighting being witches and accept that it was something they would be stuck with forever. The burning of the relinquishing spell is a significant moment in that respect.
‘Wicca Envy’ is a pretty decent episode that ends the first half of the season in a fun way.
8/10
