Charmed 1.13 'From Fear To Eternity'

Bringing your worst fear to life is obviously something that everyone dreads, and bringing these out into the open gave our girls the chance to face them head on, and showed how brave they really are and made me change the way I viewed them. This was also the first episode to feature long running nemesis Barbas.

Synopsis: On Friday the 13th the demon of fear, Barbas, returns to kill 13 witches so he can stay on earth permanently. In order to stop him, Phoebe and Prue must come face to face with their deepest fears

This episode was one episode where I found myself really liking Prue. As annoying as she could be, she was always the bravest of the three sisters, which is probably why Paige always felt like a failure when comparing herself to her. Seeing Prue overcome her fear and come to Phoebe’s rescue made me change my mind about her in a big way. She always sacrificed everything for her sisters, until the very end.

She came across even more relatable when we see how her mother’s death really affected her. She killed herself to take care of her two younger sisters just to make her mother proud, but could never really deal with the death itself. Her tearful confession at the end of this episode was probably a moment when her character made a major turnaround, at least in my eyes, showing a lot more vulnerability.

Barbas as a villain was always a little strange. He came across as quite one dimensional here, with the usual seek kill destroy mentality, but in later years had a bit of humour to him, probably to make his many returns in the later seasons a bit more palpable. Never the less, the threat of facing your own deepest fear made him scary enough for this episode to do its job.

8.5/10
