When Prue was on form, she was one of the best characters the show had. This episode explores something that future episodes in seasons 2 & 3 do, the different aspects of Prue’s personality that she holds back, in order to take care of her sisters. It was moments like this when the show proved it was capable of really great things.
Synopsis: Prue casts a spell to magnify her powers after Phoebe has a premonition of her being killed. The spell ends up creating two clones, both with a different aspect of her personality.
Prue has always had to hold a major part of her back in order to look after Piper and Phoebe. We saw a lot of this part of her in the ‘blue’ clone, who represented Prue’s wilder side that never really got to come out and play enough. This part of her comes out again in future episodes. The ‘pink’ clone always proved just how calm and collected Prue actually was. In contrast to the uptight workaholic we met in earlier episodes.
The idea of Prue feeling the pain of each clone’s death gave each of their murders a lot more meaning. I’m glad something like this never came up again, I doubt it would have been handled as well as it was in this episode.
Again, I feel quite sorry for Andy here. Once again he’s jerked around by Prue and has to go through something quite painful only to realise it was all fake. It’s not surprising that he finally decided to investigate the girls themselves.
The characterisation here was on top form, brilliant.
9/10
