‘Reckless Abandon’ is not the most original of Charmed instalments. The girls are stuck with someone else’s baby, while hilarity ensues. Despite this, it’s actually quite a fun episode.
Synopsis: When Phoebe finds an abandoned baby, the three sisters must fight a ghost who wants to see the baby and all other males in his family dead as an act of revenge against his grandmother.
It’s a pretty simple episode, but for some reason I’ve always loved it. The comedy that arises when Phoebe brings the baby home is pretty standard, but adding their powers into it makes it a little more interesting and I loved all the cute moments each of the girls had with baby Matthew.
It’s surprising that Phoebe was the one that found mother hood so easily, you really would expect it to be Piper. She is the more compassionate sister after all. Still, I liked that the show toyed with the idea of the girls having children so early on.
The ghost story is a little different than we’re used to, adding a bit of family drama to the mix. It wasn’t amazing, but still a great story. Martha’s sacrifice gave the story a sad but necessary ending.
It wasn’t the most outstanding of Charmed hours admittedly, but it was fun all the same.
