Charmed 2.14 'Pardon My Past'

In a superbly filmed episode, we get out first taste of past lives. The era was depicted wonderfully, with another story touching on Phoebe’s darker side.

Synopsis: Phoebe receives signs from a past life warning her about her death. In order to find out how to stop it she must travel back in time and find out what happened to her past self.

Like season 1’s ‘Is There A Woogy In The House’, ‘Pardon My Past’ touches on Phoebe’s dark side. Whether it was done intentionally or not remains to be seen, but it’s something that comes up again and again in the next couple of seasons. Phoebe’s past life falling for an evil man hints at her future romance with the half-demon Cole next season.

The era in question, the 20’s, was filmed pretty amazingly and the costumes and set were both on point. The parts were all played brilliantly by our girls here, Alyssa slipping into the role of an evil witch effortlessly. I liked the idea of their past lives having different powers. Misuse of magical powers seems to be something Charmed takes seriously. Piper’s past life still having the power to freeze was a nice touch though. Prue’s past life being a photographer was a great way to get her to follow her dream.

The story behind this episode is a good enough one too. The romance between Pearl Russell and Anton wasn’t the most fascinating, but it worked well, although the reveal of him posing as Christina was pretty obvious.

Despite the story not being mind blowing, the flashbacks made this episode quite great.

8.5/10

  1. I agree with you on most of this, except for when you called Russell "Pearl".
