Charmed 3.19 'The Demon Who Came In From The Cold'

Despite featuring an all too boring corporate plot, this episode is something that at this point was completely necessary: Testing Cole’s changed loyalties.

Synopsis: Cole infiltrates the Brotherhood, a demonic group of half demons in order to stop their plot to take over a major company, and gain access to the world’s information flow.

Obviously Cole’s changed agenda is something that couldn’t have gone untested for too long. He was intent on killing them only a few months ago, so the time had come for us to find out whether or not his feelings for Phoebe are actually genuine.

I really liked how Phoebe and Cole’s tight connection is what allowed Phoebe to kill the leader of the brotherhood. The ‘safest place she knows’ thing, as silly as it was, actually worked quite well and made this episode a lot better than if it had been solely focused on the brotherhood alone.

Despite being an important hour for Phoebe and Cole, the main demonic plot really dragged down what could have been a superb episode. I really found it hard not to drift off during their speeches about internet companies and mergers. It’s seriously something that could have just been removed completely.

The brotherhood themselves were pretty ridiculous too, and not half as dark as you'd expect a circle of powerful demons to be like. I think along with the company merger idea, this could have been taken away altogether, and given something a little darker and more demonic instead of something so ‘corporate’.

If it weren’t for its sucky parts, this episode could have been something really great. Still, I enjoyed the episode as it was but the execution really tore it down. But it was a necessary episode in order to move on to the events of 'Exit Strategy'.

7/10
