There was always something that bugged me about Victor’s appearance in this episode and for the longest time I could never figure it out. After watching it again (for, like, the millionth time), I figured it out. He never really felt like a father. Not even an estranged father.
Synopsis: Prue, Piper and Phoebes father Victor returns to San Francisco claiming to want to see his daughters again, but after Phoebe has a premonition of him stealing the Book of Shadows they must deal with the possibility that he may have an ulterior motive.
The way Victor’s return was handled was also a major problem with ‘Morphing. They never really seemed to paint him in the right way. When we were supposed to believe that he might be against the sisters, he was too over the top. That may be down to acting and/or directing, but regardless of whatever it was due to, it didn’t work. When he was supposed to try and rekindle his relationship with his estranged daughters, it still didn’t work. His departure in the end also baffled me. After regaining their trust, he bolts. After seeing how protective he was of the girls during their battle, it was also something a little out of character.
Still, the way the girls reacted to his presence was pretty well depicted. Prue, the only one who could ever really remember him, fought to keep her anger inside. Her using her powers against him was always a bit extreme though. Piper and Phoebe were naturally a little more open, Phoebe mostly who finally got the opportunity to get to know one of her parents, something she never got to do. The final moment of them all watching their family video was sweet and endearing.
The shapeshifers, like Javna, also age pretty badly, though not to the same extent. It was one of the episodes that featured poor guest stars, who really didn’t seem threatening at all. OH, and since when would a power wielding witch be afraid of a dog anyway?!
Another miss.
