Charmed 1.08 'The Truth Is Out There...And It Hurts'

In this episode, we saw another case of the ‘demon of the week’ plot being the main issue with the instalment. It was the wacky fun that ensued after another spell goes awry that makes this episode so fun to watch.

Synopsis: Prue casts a truth spell in to find out what Andy would think if he found out that she was a witch. Phoebe and Piper fight to protect a young woman who has become a target of a demon from the future.

This was where Prue really began to let her walls down a bit and show she really was capable of mistakes. She casted the truth spell and followed her heart trying to find out how her secret would affect Andy. His proclamation at the end of this episode is one of the most significant moments in their love story, and was a sad one to watch unfold and it became the first time that I really started to feel for Prue.

Like the previous episode, this one features some great interaction between Piper and Phoebe as they fight over Leo. Phoebe admitting she only likes Leo because Piper does is something that shows just how committed the show was to making them seem more like sisters. There was a lot of fun moments where the truth spell really got in the girls’ way, Piper in particular who finally got the courage to stand up to her boss.

The demon that came back from the future was pretty silly. The story was executed in such a boring way that it made this episode a lot less great than it should have been. Still, with the spell gone awry stuff, as standard as it is, this episode was an a lot of fun.

8/10
