‘Out of Sight’ gives us our first glimpse of what might happen if the girls’ powers were to become public knowledge. Despite annoying child actors, this episode felt like one of the stronger ones of the season.
Synopsis: A reporter witnesses Prue using her powers trying to stop a demon abducting a child. Prue, Piper and Phoebe must find a way to save the child while fending off threats of exposure.
As a rule, most heroes blessed with super powers or magic of any kind usually have to keep it a secret at all times. This rule also applies to our girls here and ‘Out of Sight’ gives us our first taste of the damage that exposure could do to them, and how much it could affect their ability to save peoples’ lives. It was never something ‘Charmed’ took lightly (at least early on), and it always gave the topic enough weight to make it as important as it should be.
The reporter was just as annoying as you would expect him to be, making his death more of an easy way out that something too upsetting. I always felt like this was a time when the girls started to be a lot more careful about where and when they used their magic.
The Grimlocks were more frightening than other demons the girls faced, mostly because of the threat they faced to children. Bring kids into something and it usually made everything seem so much more evil. I liked how messy the potions were in this episode too, it became far too easy after the first two seasons!
‘Out of Sight’ was a strong episode, and showed just how consistent Charmed could be.
8.5/10
