Charmed 1.20 'The Power Of Two'

Prue and Phoebe’s dynamic was always in the fore front during the first season of Charmed. ‘The Power of Two’ is the first episode to address their issues with each other head on, and gave us an intense and interesting instalment.

Synopsis: With Piper away on a work trip, it’s up to Prue and Phoebe to save the day when a ghost begins getting revenge on the people who had him executed.

Prue and Phoebe were always at odds with each other, no more so that in season one. Phoebe’s lack lustre attitude always bothered Prue, who works so hard to help her family. This was the first time that Prue’s attitude towards work didn’t annoy me as much as it did before, in fact it made her far more likeable.

She has to work so hard to support the family, while Phoebe refuses to go and get a job to help lighten the load. Still, you can still find it so easy to side with Phoebe here too. Since we always saw how they fought demons as a threesome, taking one of the sisters away really helped change things up.

Ghosts in Charmed were a little inconsistent. Sometimes they glow, sometimes they don’t. They’re evil sometimes, other times they’re not. As far as ghost centric episodes go, this is definitely one of the better ones. Jackson was one of the scarier enemies that propped up. A lot of that is down to Jeff Kober, who gives the character a great sense of menace.

‘The Power of Two’ is the first time we see Andy working with the sisters, now fully knowledgeable about their secret. It’s something that should have happened a little earlier though, because it was a fun switch up in the dynamic.

Despite only being written to give Holly time off for surgery, it still ended up being a fantastic hour.

9/10
