This was always one of my favourite episodes when I first started watching the show, but upon viewing all these years later, it really turned into one of the weaker episodes of the season. That being said, it’s still not as bad as a lot of fans make it out to be.
Synopsis: The girls must help a young man to destroy the evil witch Tuatha who escapes from her tomb.
The Piper, Leo and Dan love triangle is a main element of this episode, and Piper comes across as annoying as she was in the previous few episodes. Can she really blame either of them for being angry? Leo wasn’t there solely to spy on her, he did have a job to do, but she never really seemed to get that.
Leo always seemed a lot different from season to season. In season one he was quiet and compassionate, the perfect fit for Piper, but in season 2 he became a lot pricklier, almost echoing Piper’s personality shift. Still, I always felt that shift was done purely to make this love triangle work, as was Dan’s introduction.
This episode introduces Jack, Prue first major love interest since Andy. As annoying as he could be, I really felt he kind of went hand in hand with Prue’s new lighter demeanour, and they always had plenty of chemistry.
Tuatha and the Chosen one were a little ridiculous. The nerd who turns out to be a hero doesn’t work here, even in a ‘it’s been done so much that it works’ way. Both Tuatha and Ethan prove to be the two weakest links here. Ethan was quite unlikeable, and Tuatha was so clique and just as you’d expect her to be that it turned such a great story into quite a boring one. Still, whenever the girls have their powers tripped, it always makes things seem a little more dangerous and that’s what saves this episode in a way.
Jenny makes her final appearance here, thrown into the weekly plot for no reason other than to do something with her. She was infuriatingly annoying, and her quick ejection from the show was a good move.
6.5/10
