Charmed 3.02 'Magic Hour'

It always annoys me when shows try to hold an episode together by basing everything around something and throwing random stories into the mix to help beef it up. With a seriously dull story, this episode is only saved by its heartbreaking ending.

Synopsis: Piper and Leo try to marry before the elders find out, but an innocent gets in the way. Phoebe has second thoughts about the idea of Piper getting married.

When episodes base themselves around something that can only really serve as a backdrop to another story that part should be a little bit interesting. This one, however, was a little dull. While it did tie in some bit into the more important part of the Piper/Leo wedding, it still turned out flat. Charmed can take ideas that have been done to death and make them their own, but here it gave us nothing new and really just bored me.

I loved how Phoebe was nervous for her and Prue. Why shouldn’t she? She could end up getting seriously hurt if things don’t go their way.

Grams makes another appearance here. One thing that annoys me about it is how run-of-the-mill it is. I mean, Phoebe’s seeing her dead grandmother, but she acts as if it’s just a neighbour who’s popped in from next door. That being said, it was great that they ended up using Grams as the high priestess.

It was the final scene that made this episode. Holly is particularly brilliant here, and her breakdown surrounded by her sisters is such a sad moment.

5/10
