Charmed 3.03 'Once Upon A Time'

Episodes like this one are either a complete disaster or they’re completely fantastic. For me, it’s the latter. While some people call this episode a complete waste of time and space, I thought it was a great bit of fun in an otherwise dark season.

Synopsis: Prue and Phoebe revert to children when they attempt to protect a fairy from evil trolls. Piper has trouble dealing with her role as a witch after Leo has been taken from her.

This episode feels like how I wish some episodes in season 5 should have been. While that season was over flowing with episodes introducing fairy tale characters like this, ‘Once Upon A Time’ did it in such a great way. They added a darker edge to the story with ridiculously sounding trolls actually being quite scary.

The greatest part of this one, though, is the havoc Prue and Phoebe cause while under the effect of the fairy dust. Sure, it doesn’t make them look like the great actresses they are, but it was great fun to watch them. The childish singing running around the manor really made me smile.

Piper’s loss here is something that I really felt for. Unlike the previous season when she came across terribly, her anger and frustration here are inevitable. Season 3 was when she transitioned into the fun prickly character she’d become later on. I loved her speech that she made to elders. She's done so much for them and now they've taken away the one thing she loves the most.

OK, so this episode is not perfect. The guest stars are up there with some of the worst in the show's  years and it IS childish, but it’s crazily entertaining. Job Done.

8.5/10

  1. Wow. You've posted up so many reviews! I gotta catch up reading them. I always thought Once Upon a Time was a complete trainwreck though. It's interesting the complete 180 in opinion to yours, heh.

  2. Ha! I know, I was just giving it a read only a few minutes ago. It's almost a polar opposite of this one...
    Thanks for reading!
