Charmed 4.04 'Enter The Demon'

Even though this episode is plagued with awfully designed sets (even for Charmed) it’s actually fairly enjoyable. It’s not hard to see where the inspiration for this episode comes from. Also, Charmed has its first Freaky Friday moment.

Synopsis: Paige accidentally switches bodies with Phoebe while making a potion. The sisters must help a Zen Master who is being targeted by an angry former student.

It’s about time Charmed did the whole body switching thing. Honestly it’s pretty weird they didn’t up to this point, considering all the other things they’ve done already. Still, the timing was perfect, allowing Paige the chance to see what her sisters think of her, and sort out any issues they had. It’s all been done before in other shows/movies that have done this kind of thing, but it was needed in this instance.

The only thing that ruins it is Alyssa's wretched performance. I honestly do not know why she spent the entire episode acting like a 7 year old, since Paige most certainly is NOT like that. It’s her first misfire on the show, acting wise. Rose actually does Phoebe well enough, managing to make her look like an actual adult.

What really became apparent is Piper’s new role as big sister, which she seemed to really jump into during this episode. She makes such a great teacher and mentor for someone like Paige, who seems to be having fun with the whole witch thing still.

The whole Ninja/Zen Master thing sort of reminded me of ‘Wrestling With Demons’ in that they tried very hard to capitalise on something that was popular at the time. Thankfully, this time around they are a bit more successful. It is a little clique when it’s all over, but what I liked about it is that they made no effort to hide where they stole the idea from.

The sets used were quite dire though. I know Charmed doesn’t have the greatest sets on the planet. The TV budget would obviously make it difficult to make flawless believable sets all of the time. Still, this episode was particularly bad.

7.5/10
